What is the difference between an S-VHS tape and a standard VHS tape?

Question:
What is the difference between an S-VHS tape and a standard VHS tape?

Answer:
S-VHS (Super VHS) tapes utilize a different formulation then standard VHS. This formulation results in higher output from S-VHS tape, which is necessary for the tape to record properly in an S-VHS VCR. Although the new S-VHS "ET" VCRs are able to record close to S-VHS quality on a standard VHS tape, they still provide the best performance when using S-VHS tape.
