FUJIFILM EXPANDS RIS OFFERING

Introduces Synapse™ Tele-RIS to meet growing demand of radiology practices. Plus communications platform now available

Chicago, IL - November 29, 2009 - Noting that private radiology practices have business and management needs that make their requirements from a radiology information system (RIS) unique from those of a hospital, FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA Inc. has created Synapse™ Tele-RIS - a RIS designed specifically for the private radiology practice. The first major vendor to offer a customized RIS for practices, Fujifilm will be highlighting the product this week at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting. The company will also be demonstrating their communications platform which is also now available in the U.S.

“Before introducing Synapse Tele-RIS, we carefully evaluated the needs of the market and talked with radiology groups to find out what they needed to help them achieve their patient care and business goals,” said Mark Hilborn, Fujifilm’s Director of Information Systems Marketing, Medical Informatics. “We are seeing huge demand in the market for a solution that is both full featured and customizable to fit the individual practice needs.”

A full-featured RIS, Synapse Tele-RIS includes the same baseline functionality that the hospital-based Synapse RIS provides. The Synapse Tele-RIS provides unique features designed with radiology in mind including:

  • Worklist Assignment Engine/Credentialing – This feature provides the ability to match the study with the appropriate radiologist depending on the location, state and specialty. Radiologists can just read assigned studies right from their worklist, saving time and increasing workflow efficiency. The worklist includes visual reminders based on site level agreements to assure that all studies are read in a timely manner. Status alerts notify users when thresholds are approaching and users may automatically or manually reassign studies for interpretation.
  • Radiology Dashboard – A single view of the radiology department is available on the RIS homepage. Data includes outstanding reports to be signed, critical results waiting, patient waiting time, low inventory items, and outstanding STAT studies, among others.

With a focus on enhanced communications, Fujifilm is also now providing

  • Peer Review – Enabling compliance with American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines, peer review allows radiologists to designate studies for double read as well as generate random study selection. Notes can be added and searched, discrepant findings appropriately handled, as well as other necessary tools.
  • Critical Results Workflow – To support new JCAHO requirements, embedded workflow supports critical results reporting. Departments are ensured that the communication of critical results between referring physicians and radiologists is delivered and tracked as quickly as possible. This is one of several features of Fujifilm’s new Communications Accellerator designed to help radiology departments meet the ever changing business and regulatory requirements of radiology information management.
  • Imaging and Informatics Convergence – Fujifilm has integrated its medical informatics workflow across all of the company’s modality offerings including CR, DR and FFDM. The integration of the company’s modality workstation will be demonstrated with both the Synapse PACS/RIS platforms to allow the display of images, and provide the ability for technologists to: capture dose information within the RIS, complete studies, QA exams, review Patient Alerts, view radiologist protocol notes; among other exciting features.

Both the Synapse Tele-RIS and the new communications features are currently available.
