Water Intake Tunnels, Trash Racks, Water Feed Pipes, Penstocks and Condenser Circulating & Service Water Systems
It is well known that fouling by mussels, barnacles and other organisms which attach to immersed surfaces of Water Intake Tunnels, Trash Racks, Water Feed Pipes, Penstocks and Condenser Circulating & Service Water Systems is an expensive and challenging problem.
Developing a coating that resists fouling, but does not pose a risk to the environment or human health is very challenging. Until recently, chemicals (chlorine), anti-fouling coatings containing biocides (poisons) and thermal shock have been used to control the marine growth.
FUJIFILM Hunt Smart Surfaces, LLC. now offers its DUPLEX fouling release system technology as an effective and environmentally friendly alternative. The DUPLEX non-toxic solution is a U.S. Navy patented durable system that resists mechanical damage silicone-based coating that causes marine organisms to release from surfaces. The longevity of the DUPLEX system is 5 years or greater depending on operational use. Our DUPLEX solution will work toward saving the environment, while at the same time save your budget.
Not all fouling release technologies are created equal. Conventional systems can be vulnerable to wear and tear from debris in water or from contact with other structures. The DUPLEX system is proven to be more durable than other fouling release coatings, providing steady long-term performance. In addition, our DUPLEX Tie Coat formula incorporates nano technology for unique synergy of four layers - two epoxy anti-corrosion layers and a tough protective silicone topcoat, all of which are effectively interlocked by a unique thermoplastic elastomeric tie coat layer that forms a molecular covalent bond. The synergy among the four coats creates superior adhesion. Specific Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of the system layers are as follows:
This patented solution unites durability, longevity, clean-ability, and cost-effectiveness in a single product.
Our DUPLEX system offers:
One of the most significant applications of the DUPLEX Fouling Release system is for power plant coolant intake water tunnels, and other similar applications where water from the environment is used in the industrial process. For instance, in the Mississippi watershed, dogged by the appearance of the non-indigenous Zebra Mussels, power plants are forced to shutdown or use biocides to clean, kill off or remove these fouling organisms. The DUPLEX technology has been validated as an effective and robust solution for use in coolant intake tunnels. Costs associated with the unanticipated fouling of a coolant intake system and necessary shutdown has been calculated in the millions of dollars.
Smart Surfaces DUPLEX Fouling Release coating system is a patented, extremely durable, effective silicone-based coating. Smart Surfaces DUPLEX Fouling Release technology causes marine organisms – such as zebra mussels, quagga mussels and other infestations – to be released from surfaces at very slow flow rates (as low as 0.5 feet per second in fresh water) and with light water pressure.
Smart Surfaces DUPLEX Fouling Release Coating System eliminates the hazard and expense of chlorination treatment. Our non-toxic solution works with Nature, not against it. The super tough, silicone-based coating is anti-corrosive and extremely hydrophobic. So it not only saves on maintenance costs, Smart Surfaces DUPLEX technology reduces friction loss and increases condenser flow rate.
