The FUJIFILM X30’s 2/3-inch X-Trans CMOS II sensor inherits the same architecture and features of the high performance sensor found in the acclaimed FUJIFILM X-T1. Adoption of BSI (backside illumination) technology allows the successful incorporation of phase detection pixels into the array without affecting sensitivity performance -- the key to the X30's high-speed AF.
X-Trans CMOS II adopts an original color filter array with a highly random pattern, eliminating the need for an optical low-pass filter (OLPF), which is used in conventional systems to inhibit moiré at the expense of resolution. This lets the sensor directly capture the high resolution performance of the FUJIFILM X30 lens. Also making the most of the enhanced performance of the EXR Processor II, Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) factors are calculated to compensate for aberrations and diffraction blur that occur when light passes through the lens, and are then applied to produce images with amazing sharpness.
The blazing image processing performance of the EXR Processor II produces images with increased resolution and higher quality at higher speeds, and accelerates operational response. This LSI improvement speeds up operation, reducing start-up time to only approx. 0.5 seconds**. Working in tandem with the high-speed signal readout of the X-Trans CMOS II sensor, the processor reduces the shooting interval to 0.3 seconds, cuts shutter lag time to approx. 0.01 seconds, and raises the maximum continuous shooting speed to 12fps.
The combination of the processing speed of the EXR Processor II and fast readout speed of the X-Trans CMOS II sensor allows high-speed 12fps continuous shooting at full 12-Megapixel resolution. This is particularly valuable when shooting moving subjects and later selecting the best shot.
The Fujinon lens features superb F2.0-2.8 brightness and a 4x optical zoom that assures high-resolution optical performance across the entire range from 28mm*** wide angle to 112mm*** telephoto. From the aspheric and ED lenses to high-refractive index lens, every element in the design is made from high-performance optical glass and treated with a multi-layer HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) for high resistance to ghosting and lens flare.
The metal cam-driven mechanism and a special, originally-developed grease ensure that magnification is precisely on-target and the smooth high-precision zoom operates perfectly.
With a maximum aperture of F2.0 at wide angle and F2.8 at its maximum telephoto setting, this zoom is an extremely bright lens that can produce beautiful defocused effects across the zoom range. The built-in OIS (optical image stabilization) mechanism delivers an image stabilizing effect equivalent to 3.0-stop*4 and is extremely effective in preventing blur caused by camera shake or subject movement.
In order to maintain the FUJIFILM X30's compact shell while ensuring superb image quality, Fujinon has adopted lenses made of glass with superior optical characteristics for all elements in the 9-group/11-element configuration. The design incorporates an arrangement of aspheric lenses, ED lenses and high-refractive index lenses that are treated with Fujinon's originally developed Super EBC (Electron Beam Coating).
