Masataka Akiyama Masataka became President and CEO of Fujifilm Medical Systems U.S.A. in July 2014. His many years of experience in the medical arena is a major asset for the company’s role in developing and marketing an increasingly broad portfolio of modality solutions, medical informatics, women’s health platforms and other diagnostic products, technologies and services. Masa joined Fujifilm in 1988 in the production planning department at the company’s Ashigara factory in Japan. For nine years he worked on account sales for Fujifilm’s graphics business, and in 2002 joined the company’s medical division. His first role in the division was as European Marketing Manager. Prior to assuming his new role at FMSU, Mr. Akiyama served as General Manager of the International Markets Group for Modality Solutions, based in Japan.
President and CEO
Johann Fernando, Ph.D.
Johann provides day-to-day leadership and management for FMSU Sales, the Medical Informatics and Modality Solutions Divisions, Business Operations, and Service, to help achieve the company’s sales and profitability goals and establish sustainable growth. He also leads the effort to expand our Healthcare IT business and drive collaboration across business units. Trained as a medical imaging physicist, Johann has worked in positions of increased responsibility and leadership with Epikon Imaging, Picker & Marconi Medical Systems, Agilent Technologies, and ADAC Labs/Philips Healthcare. Most recently he was vice president and general manager for Accuray, where he increased customer satisfaction for a #1 MD Buyline rating. Johann has an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, and a Ph.D in Radiology Imaging from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Chief Operating Officer
Diku Mandavia, M.D.
Diku provides leadership for the healthcare and clinical compliance efforts of both FMSU and FMSU SonoSite by overseeing a growing list of activities related to patient care, medical professional networking, and healthcare management interaction. Diku, who joined SonoSite as a medical advisor in 2007, is a Clinical Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Southern California, and was an Attending Staff Physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. He is also a founding member and past chair of the ACEP Ultrasound Section, taught thousands of physicians worldwide, lectured at over 150 national and international conferences, has contributed to over 40 publications, and is co-director of the National Resuscitation Conference. Diku received his medical degree from Memorial University in Canada, and is a graduate of the Stanford Executive Program.
Chief Medical Officer
Bill was appointed Vice President of Medical Informatics in April 2016. Responsible for market and product strategy of PACS, Cardiovascular Information Systems (CVIS), VNA, RIS and various other Synapse medical informatics products and solutions, Bill’s broad role also includes product marketing, marketing operations, strategic account support, and our Informatics technical sales resource team. Having joined FMSU in 2003, Bill’s previous roles included Regional Digital Imaging Sales Specialist, where he was responsible for modality and Informatics product sales, and then moved on to numerous roles of increasing importance in the Informatics business, including his most recent as Division VP of Informatics sales and marketing. Prior to Fujifilm, Bill held a number of positions with Konica Minolta Medical Imaging for over 11 years, including National Digital Imaging Sales Specialist.
Vice President, Medical Informatics
Eiji is responsible for numerous functions vital to the successful development and marketing of FMSU products, including regulatory affairs, quality assurance and clinical science. He also oversees the teams engaged in the marketing and market development of Modality Solutions products, including DR, CR and Women’s Health. Eiji joined Fujifilm in April 1988 as an engineer in the medical research & development department, concentrating on CR products. As a project leader he helped plan and introduce both the FCR PRIMA and the D-EVO series, and contributed to the design of the training that helped strengthen Fujifilm’s image application capabilities on a global basis. His most recent position was as head of Modality Solutions Global Product Planning & Marketing at Medical Systems headquarters. Eiji has a Bachelor’s degree in engineering/applied physics from Tohoku University, and his expertise in modality solutions and engineering has consistently been put to effective use throughout his career at Fujifilm.
Vice President, Modality Solutions, Quality, Regulatory, Clinical Affairs
Keiichi was appointed Division President, Endoscopy, in January 2012. His Fujifilm career began in 1988 in Japan in the marketing department of the photo imaging product line, where he participated in the marketing success of the QuickSnap single-use camera that revolutionized the consumer photography industry. He joined the international marketing team for Recording Media in 1994 and beginning in 1997 spent a decade in Germany handling sales and marketing of recording media, such as data storage products for the European and African markets. Following that he became Manager in the European headquarters for recording media, heading up Sales and Marketing. He then oversaw international marketing of Fujifilm's Digital Mammography, Computed Radiography, and Digital Radiography systems in Japan. Keiichi received his B.A. from Waseda University in Tokyo, where he majored in Political Science and Economics.
Divisional President, Endoscopy
Jason joined Fujifilm Medical Systems in March 2016 to provide day-to-day leadership and management for the FMSU sales organization. He also collaborates with all business units to drive market share, revenue and profitability growth across the company’s broad business and product portfolio. During his 20-year career, Jason has held a number of important positions in the healthcare industry, including zone sales director, national IT new business director, and strategic accounts director. Just prior to joining Fujifilm, he was regional vice president at Siemens Healthcare. Jason holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Policy Administration from Penn State University and brings extensive experience in sales, sales management, strategic business development and customer relations to his role at FMSU.
Vice President, Sales
Martin joined Fujifilm Medical Systems U.S.A. in February 2008 as a Regional Service Manager and was appointed Vice President of Services and Support Operations in July 2014. In his current role he oversees service and support operations and the customer support center, and leads the team that manages the professional service and integration activities, including online training and education courses, for all Fujifilm products. Martin also guides and directs a number of additional departments within the group and has profit-and-loss responsibility for the business side of the service function. Prior to assuming his new role, Martin was Director of Customer Support. He began his career with a mechanical engineering apprenticeship at Philips Medical Systems in the U.K., before moving to the U.S. in 1989, where he held positions with Toshiba America Medical Systems, Cemax-Icon, Kodak, and Stereotaxis. Martin has a B.S. in Business from the University of Phoenix and an M.B.A. from Columbia College.
Vice President, Services and Support Operations
Satoshi is responsible for all of the company’s financial, accounting and planning functions, and manages the team that provides support in several additional related areas such as forecasting and budget analysis. Satoshi, who began with Fujifilm in 2002, previously worked in the Accounting & Finance group at Tokyo headquarters. In addition to many other integral projects, he was responsible for tax management through the creation of strategies to maximize tax-related efficiencies, eliminate risks, improve verification and documentation, and more. Satoshi has a degree from Waseda University in Tokyo.
Vice President, Finance
John oversees business operations on behalf of all major corporate and sales activities, and has the additional responsibility of developing ways to enhance operational efficiency for order management, procurement, materials management, warehouse management and logistics. John joined FMSU in August 2006. Prior to his current role he had a number of other responsibilities at the company, including heading the Channel Sales team. Before coming aboard he had been the national channel manager for Eastman Kodak for more than a decade. John has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island.
